My four day fast
When I do a water fast, the 1st day is pretty easy. I just disappear from my house till it's dark. That tells my system, I'm actually serious about the fast.
If I keep busy, I'm not going to think about food. Hunger really isn't an issue. My brain is a different story. I like food, that's more of an issue than hunger. So on my first day, I convince myself that there are better days to start my fast. So I procrastinate and put off the fast for another day. That can go on for a couple of weeks. But if I'm away from the kitchen then I stand a real good chance of committing to the fast.
On the second day I'm pretty much done with organ depletion of glycogen. Since I start my 4 day fast in the morning, I'm up every hour or so to pee. They say the organs shrink 10% when you deplete glycogen. What's glycogen? Well your organs store glucose with the help of water. When you run out of food, your organs start converting stored glycogen into glucose. The water released is just a by product.
When you run out of glucose (blood sugar from eating carbohydrates), then your fat begins to make a different form of energy called ketones. Your liver will convert your body fat into these ketones with a small amount of glucose. It's a big energy switch, you're changing from glucose to ketones and you can feel it.
Its not a fun thing to experience. I get pressure headache and exhaustion and a general flu like feeling. I think it's called the Keto flu. It's been getting better each fast I experience. I've done 32 fasts. It took 72 years for me to mess up my system from eating too many carbs, so it's going to take quite a while to reverse my damage. I've reduced my biologic age to 67, measured by Trume's last DNA telemere test, cost: about 100.00.
Anyway, this ketone flu lasts part of the 2nd day, which is my worst day. The third day is a little bit like the first. My brain starts playing tricks on me. The second day is easy to recognize the fact of the fast. because of thus flu like symptom. The third day becomes easier and that's actually when my brain starts to think about how good food tastes, so I have to be on the lookout all day, else I'm stuffing something down my throat before I'm aware of what I'm doing.
The fourth day is a breeze. No headaches, no flu symptoms, after the fourth day, I could probably go another week. The fourth day, is the most important. There's a lot of of and on exhaustion, that's because I have stem cells flying through my body and white blood cells are removing those old age zombie cells.
All in all its an experience that changes me so completely that's it's hard to describe all the changes.
